FIRST you must create what is called a "connection". To do this you will need to select/click the following from your desktop: SELECT THE ICON: My Computer SELECT THE FOLDER: Dial-Up Networking SELECT THE ICON: Make New Connection CALL the computer you are dialing "Hardlink" or something equally descriptive. SELECT your modem. SELECT the "CONFIGURE" button. The settings will depend on what type and speed modem you have. Here is an example: IN GENERAL: Port: COM1 Maximum Speed: 57600 Only connect at this speed BOX is NOT SELECTED. (Do not select) IN CONNECTION: Data bits: 8 Parity: None Stop bits: 1 SELECT: Wait for dial tone before dialing SELECT: Cancel the call if not connected within 60 Sec. _________________________________________________________________ NOTE: ONLY TOUCH the Advanced and Port setting if you really know what you are doing. :) _________________________________________________________________ IN OPTIONS: Only SELECT the Display modem status Click on the "OK" button, then on the "NEXT" button. You can get a list from: http://www.hardlink.net/Support/phonelist.html or you can call us at either: (877) 961-4800 or (781) 961-4800 If you do find a local number, make sure that the "Area Code" box is blank or you may be dialing an invalid number. 2. TIME TO setup the TCP/IP network. Go to the following: SELECT: Control Panel SELECT: Network IN CONFIGURATION: SELECT TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter _____________________________________________________________ NOTE: Sometimes it just says TCP/IP and not TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter. This is ok. _____________________________________________________________ Click on the "ADD" button. REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER. Then come back to the network program SELECT Properties IN GATEWAY Leave blank IN IP ADDRESS SELECTS an IP address automatically IN DNS CONFIGURATION SELECT: Disable DNS. HOST: your username DOMAIN: hardlink.net The DNS, IP and gateway information is automatically configured during dialup connections. If they have been set by other ISP's then you will need to make sure that they are blank. DO NOT CONFIGURE ANYTHING ELSE ! ! ! 3. TIME TO go online: SELECT: My Computer SELECT: Dial-Up Networking SELECT: Connections SELECT: Properties SELECT: dont prompt SELECT: My Computer SELECT: Dial-Up Networking SELECT: Hardlink username: yourusername@hardlink.net password: yourpassword save : on click Connect If you just put "yourusername" in the "username" field, then things will NOT work. You need to put "yourusername@hardlink.net". IF ALL GOES WELL, THEN YOU ARE NOW ONLINE ! ! ! Some users like to drag the "hardlink icon" onto their desktop.
